SWING INTO SPRING WITH A SONG IN YOUR HEART
Winter is done and Spring is in the air so let music put a spring in your step. Let’s celebrate the arrival of greenery and blossoms in our beautiful natural surroundings with Carpe Musicam!, the Southern Cape’s favourite little orchestra, presenting their popular annual Spring/Swing is in the Air concert in the NGK Sedgefield (Hoepoe Street) on Saturday 14 October at 7pm.
On the varied concert programme is an exciting miscellany of Spring and swing-themed musical treats ranging from Japanese traditional music played on a Chinese traditional instrument (!) to a brand new arrangement and orchestration of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, which explores rock, swing and Latin interpretations of Gershwin’s immortal theme, as well as allowing drummer Kevi Levin to show off his skills in an extended drum solo.
Canadian-born soprano, Ashley Alt, will be making her debut, ably assisted and abetted by CMO!’s own soprano soloist, Ninette Smit, and we hope they will work together again later in the year. Sedgefield’s own child soprano, Leticia van As, will also be lifting her voice in song to welcome Spring with Linda Ronstadt’s beautiful song Winter Light.
Tickets at R80, with scholars at R20, are available from Ann Carroll (083 275 7576) at the NGK office or at the door on the night. To add to your enjoyment, refreshments will be on sale during the interval in aid of The Living Cornerstone Alzheimer’s Residence.
If you can’t make it to the Sedgefield concert (or would like to hear it again) don’t despair as the same programme will be performed at St Mark’s Cathedral in George on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 October at 19:00. Tickets on a reserved seat basis at the Cathedral Office from 08:00 to 13:00 on weekdays (044 873 3239) – or you can take pot luck at the door on the night.
